Operations Manager (George, Western Cape)

Job Type: One Year Fixed Term Contract

Salary: Negotiable

Our client is seeking to appoint an Operations Manager based in George. The chosen candidate will ensure that the company’s operations run smoothly. You will be responsible for improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection and training of new employees
  • Assigning and scheduling of shifts as well as coaching, counseling and the discipline of employees
  • Ensure communication of job expectations with each employee as well as the planning, monitoring, appraising and reviewing of job contributions
  • Identifying any skills gaps in the company and undertaking a recruitment programme to support skills growth
  • Communicate all policies and procedures to employees of the company
  • Responsible for the strategic implementation of productivity and customer-service standards
  • Responsible for the forecasting requirements, preparing the annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective action
  • Develop operational systems by determining product handling and storage requirements, develop processes for receiving products, equipment utilization, inventory management and shipping
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures as well as complying with legal regulations
  • Meet or exceed operation labour budget expectations
  • Manage staff, salaries, overtime and employment contracts
  • Responsible for all department managers and supervisors
  • Run a safe, injury/accident free workplace
  • Responsible for all aspects of company vehicles, equipment and rentals
  • Maintaining customer relationships and support
  • Training of clients and users
  • Providing after-hours support
  • Project administration and implementation
  • Establish contracts, pricing and liaising with clients
  • Manage relationships with key vendors
  • Track vendor pricing, rebates and service levels
  • Work on and build closer working relationships with client and vendors
  • Review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment
  • Ensure that all chargeable repairs are billed to clients according to SLA
  • Create, supply and schedule all requested reports to internal and external clients and management according to SLA
  • Serve as primary point of contact when there are customer issues related to equipment quality, customer service, or accidents and mishaps on-site
  • Communicate customer issues with operations team and revise ways of improving the customer experience including resolving problems and complaints
  • Work closely with management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures and systems and to follow through with implementation
  • To manage the process of installing systems and equipment within the relevant timeframe
  • Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings
  • Work closely and communicating with team regarding inventory by ensuring that we are utilizing our inventory effectively, purchasing the right equipment, maintaining solid inventory data and reduce sub-rental expenses
  • Communicate with legal counsel and safety department to ensure all processes remain compliant
  • To monitor and ensure site housekeeping and preventative maintenance by preforming spot checks on a daily basis

Key requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in management, business, finance or another relevant field
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Office and Microsoft
  • 10 years in a senior managerial position
  • Experience in transport/fleet management is an added advantage
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to manage staff
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work with a wide variety of departments
  • Driver’s license essential
  • May be required to travel
